Here’s Exactly How To Transition From Winter To Spring Skincare

Though it may not feel like it right now in some places (like, for example, your bedroom) we’re heading into spring (yay?). For many of us this would usually be greeted with enthusiasm and thoughts of days spent lazily on the beach, or perhaps hiking a lovely trail somewhere. Or maybe it would spark images of garden parties or drinking faux cocktails at a local bar with friends. But this year… this year things are a little different at the onset of a new season. While we may be stuck inside right now for the greater good, that doesn’t mean you can’t get a headstart on curating your spring skincare routine and properly transition from winter to spring skincare. To help you add a little seasonal spirit into your day-to-day (and soften the fact you’re at home (All.The.Time.)) we’ve put together our favorite spring skincare tips for you.

How to do Spring Skincare.

When it comes to Springtime skincare, things are pretty different than how they were back in the depths of winter. To help cut through the confusion and know the best ways to care for your skin now that the temperatures are warming up, read on.

Swap Out That Moisturizer.

What was once golden for your skin is now, well... not (example: heavy creams). In the spring, winter’s harsh elements (wind and snow, dry air, radical shifts between inside and outside temps, lack of daylight, etc., etc.) fade gently into warming days and more humid air. As the snow subsides that dry, flaky skin situation of yours? Well, it’s most likely becoming less so.

With that in mind, you don’t need to use a day cream and night cream to keep your glow going. Your skin is naturally holding more moisture and producing more oil. This means, it’s time to use a lighter moisturizer. This way, you don’t have to worry about sweating and creating product buildup!

Use Targeted Face Oils

When it comes to creating the ultimate spring skincare routine, you should make sure to use face oils that will target your own personal skincare needs. This is one reason why we at 10 Degrees Cooler love face oils; they’re individualized and can help conquer many facial skin problems at once.

We highly recommend using an antioxidant-rich moisturizing oil (such as our 01 Luminous Face Oil) because, while it should not take the place of an SPF product, it can help protect the skin from the ravages of UV rays such as early-onset wrinkles and dark spots. Win-win.

Exfoliation Time

While in the winter you should have definitely exfoliated, now more than ever is a good time to kickstart the practice. See, you’re shedding your winter layer, so to speak. Like a bear peeking out of hibernation, and shedding its fur coat, it’s important to remove the dead skin cells to showcase spring renewal.

To do this, you’ll want to make sure that you’re exfoliating your skin 1-2 times per week. Heed our warning, however, don’t do any more than this or you can actually cause more harm than good to your skin.

If done correctly, exfoliation can help to up your radiance and glow all summer long. When it comes to choosing an exfoliating product there are two main types -- physical exfoliants and chemical exfoliants. Physical exfoliants are things like skincare brushes and derma rollers, whereas chemical exfoliants are ones made with hydroxy acids such as glycolic acid, and the like.

Use SPF Coverage.

No joke and no lie, this one is major. UVA and UVB rays, the two major sun rays that burn and damage skin, are the strongest in warmer seasons. For this reason, it is vital that you are applying an SPF to your skin daily.

The proper way to do this to ensure the best results is to go through your usual routine, and at the very end put on the sunscreen.

It should be noted that the SPF level of your sunscreen does not indicate how “strong” it is; it actually dictates the time that can pass between applications. So, if you have SPF 15, after 15 minutes, it’s time to throw some more on.

Now that we’ve gone through the major spring skincare routine tips, allow us to provide you with what we feel is an ideal springcare lineup using 10 Degrees Cooler products.
